Advice to young person interested in Finance, IB, PE, HF etc. I’m High school age. What could I do to better myself and learn? Am I interested in the right career or are there better options for someone hoping to become financially successful ?

Doing well in Highschool. Any advice would be great on anything. Am I interested in the right thing?

Similar to you, I was also very interested in IB in high school. Now that I just went through the recruiting cycle for SA 2021 and landed a BB offer in NYC, there is one thing I learned that I had no idea about in high school. Your undergrad school matters so much, it's ridiculous. Don't go to those small liberal arts schools, you need to go to a heavy target school that has good alumni. If you can get into one of those, you will have an immense advantage compared to your peers who may be smarter than you but go to school on the west coast or took scholarship money to go to a lesser known school. Undergrad school is probably the biggest factor in determining who will be able to break in to IB after college. The college I go to now was not my top choice in high school, but I am so so so so glad my top choice rejected me because it absolutely would not have given me the same networking opportunities that I needed to break in. And do your research because you don't have to go to an Ivy League type school to break in. Statistically speaking, going to a school like UMich (Ross) or UVA (McIntire) will give you a better chance of breaking in compared to a school like Brown or Vanderbilt.

So look at the list of heavy target schools (Peak Frameworks on YouTube has a great breakdown of target schools) and of those options, start thinking about what experience you want in college. Do you want to study econ or business, small school vs large school, private or public, midwest vs south vs northeast. Then you just have to get into one and you will have done all you can do from that point.

Aside from that, I would maybe try to get some sort of finance/business related internship the summer going into your senior year of high school. I did one and it really helped me with my college apps.
