Am I screwed come return offer time?
Incoming SA at a large bank. Will be working in the markets division so my SA will be a rotational experience. Last week, I was paired up with a VP who will be managing me during my SA (not sure if my manager will change since it's rotational) and we briefly chatted over the phone a bit to introduce ourselves. I felt that, given our differences, I wasn't able to connect that well with my VP.
Obviously, I will do my best to develop a good relationship with my VP but is this a bad start that can damage my chances of winning an FT return offer? Also, would appreciate any insights people on here have about working with people that are very different from them.

You haven't even hit the desk yet. Nothing to worry about. The VP could've just been distracted or having a bad day. You'll be working primarily with FT Analysts and Associates anyways. Just do a good job and have a positive attitude.
Thanks for your reply! The VP informed me that he would be my summer analyst manager throughout my summer so wouldn't I be primarily working with the VP given that he is my manager? This is my first SA at a bank so have no idea on the structure of the internship program.
No he’s more akin to a staffer. He’s just there for all the admin stuff with the interns basically.
I feel you. Just don’t let it get to your head or take it personal. Brush it off. Being likeable is important but as long as you aren’t a dick, and can get along with you peers then the next most most important thing is your work product so just try your best. If halfway through the summer you feel it’s going bad, no worries just start networking for a different firm or for a different team within the bank. But most likely than not you’ll be fine. Some people are just more abrasive. But he socially smart and try to get him to like you. Maybe he is a cold guy who just appreciates good work. Maybe he really values a grind mentality. Talk to him and try to listen to see what he wants to hear. You could also ask analysts that know him better on their advice to try and connect w him
Thanks for your reply! Yeah, that's the game plan. BTW, do you have any tips on networking for a different team within the bank? Wouldn't that appear as not being "loyal" to your group/division tho, which can adversely affect FT return offer rates?
