Anyone Else Get Annoyed by YourFinanceBrother on IG / Tiktok?

Appreciate all the content creators who share their stories and advice on surviving and succeeding in IB. Although a lot of them tend to be unfiltered and seemingly brutally honest about their stories, this account in particular is incredibly negative. It seems like every video is about how he would cry himself to sleep in the bathroom or work until his eyes bled on holidays. Yeah, we all know that the job is difficult, but I don't know of any firm that takes things to the extremes that he describes; if they did, then I blame the people who stay there.

As someone starting in IB next summer, he has me worried and dreading my return. I had some of these feelings already, and for that very reason I can't turn away from his videos. Anyone else feel this way?

I want you to imagine the worst, most uncomfortable moment you've ever experienced; it's worse and prolonged over 2 years

Yh, they have a habit of underestimating how much practical competence (PPT & modeling) is required going in, until I learned the hard way after not converting my first internship (although, I was both bereaved & logistically handicapped by very unique extenuating circumstances; but the diversity tag seemed to take precedence over everything, when deadlines were not being net, due to extenuating circumstances mentioned, despite being among the very best in theoretical knowledge of technicals)

As an intern, you are solely judged on 2 things: attitude, and some broad/longer-term improvement arc. There is no requiste for technical knowledge even at EB's. Source: analyst who interned and got a return offer and is very weak PPT/excel.

I am incoming FT not incoming intern just fyi. I have friends that have done summer internships and started FT at many banks as well as mentors who have worked in IB for years, and have not heard the horror stories that this guy describes continuously on his IG

As someone who ended up in a FT BB role, it really can be quite bad, especially if you are in an environment with a horrible culture. There are horrible seniors to work for, high stress environments, and do that all while sleep deprived.

Funny thing is, the group I joined was touted for having "a great culture" (far from the truth). Often times, this ends up being a lie told to get people to fill seats. That's why I recommend whether it's FT recruiting or a SA group placement, it's best to speak with those who have already exited the firm and no longer have skin in the game

You will hear some say "If it's so bad, why don't you just leave", but we have to recognize that individuals who have decided to go down this path, are typically very ambitious, and have been focused on accomplishing this goal for themselves for quite this time. It's not easy to give up after all the hard work that's been put in. Additionally, not everyone has financial stability to quit their role, break their lease, and continue to pay their bills while looking for a new role. The current job market is also tough, making it even more challenging.

I went in thinking the same, worried I would break down, become traumatised, all the worst things. My experience turned out to be better than I had expected. I recognise this can be group dependent, but it's still important to know there's some variance in quality of life between groups.

For context, my hours were 8am-midnight most weekdays, mostly always some, but not tons of weekend work. Those hours still shocked my friends and family, but I did find it at least sustainable. Not like I had any other real responsibilities being single and in my early-20s. It also helped having other analysts to work with doing the same thing.

That said, I would still advise to expect the worst. Better to be surprised for the better than utterly disappoint.

My two cents, take it or leave it.

Also my situation except i have near constant weekend work. It's killing me and i hate it tbh

He also tries to LARP like he was poor? His sister is a big time influencer as well and from what I heard they grew up very comfortable...
