Are Harvard/Yale/Upenn NON-TARGETS in London?

I attend a "target" school in the U.S., but I'm interested in getting a summer internship in the EMEA region, specifically London, in the hopes of landing a full-time job there.

People tell me that banks don't bother reading online applications - but does it matter that I'm from one of the elite target U.S. schools? I do have an IBD internship under my belt from last summer and I also have very good reasons for relocating to London.

I mostly applied online and received approximately 7/10 invitations, 4 of which I exercised. Result = full-time offer.

FYI, my university is in continental EU and it's name/prestige is nowhere near ivy schools, oxbridge or whatever other over rated university. So you should have some leverage + previous internship...

I would recommend online applications to as many banks as possible + using any contacts you may have. Hovewer, to my understanding the summer internship (online) deadlines are either about to expire or have experired already.

I applied to a few London positions from the US last year. Got no responses from European offices. I went to HYPS. This year I'm in grad school at a top UK university. Got a job in London for next year and had interviews offered for Goldman in London and NY, and McKinsey in New York.

Basically firms prefer students who studied in the country of the office they choose, unless you are a citizen of that country. They have to apply for work permits and it's easier to meet the criteria for the Home Office if you have a British degree or citizenship.

Oh, and the Americans I know who are analysts in London studied abroad their junior years at Oxford and LSE and applied to internships in London, then took the full-time offers.

The best banks in London are the American ones, and they will prefer American grads if they can get them. I don't thiink you have to worry coming from upenn/harvard or Yale.

Haha, you're hilarious.
