Hi,
I will be moving to NY for a SA position at a BB and have been offered a relocation bonus. My contract states that I will be receiving this bonus with my first paycheck, but I was wondering if it would be possible/is okay to ask for the money before I start (to pay for things like rent upfront, etc.)

Agreed, HR likely will not do it, so not worth putting yourself in that situation with your future employer.
You should probably try to make it work until you get the paycheck, either by delaying those expenses, borrowing from friends/family, or using credit. HR tends not to be flexible when it comes to things like this.
Just use credit cards for everything, pay minimum interest, and use the cash you save to pay down payments. You'll lose a little bit of money to credit card interest, but that's better than annoying HR this early.
