Scotiabank Canada just announced that they’re no longer allowing resumes for any Student, Co-Op, or New Grad positions.
Wondering if you guys have any thoughts on this or if you’ve heard of other banks doing something similar.

Wow so is it all just based on school
Based on the PLUM profile that they get you to fill out and transcript (so school/marks) - I know the HR team encourages multiple touchpoints too so looking to get to know the candidates better before interviewing and all. Not sure if they would give interviews off cold applications with no networking but I think that's the idea of it
Does that profile also have sections for work/project experience, skills, etc.? My gut reaction to the title is WTF but many companies (finance or not) have people submit resumes then still make them retype everything into their own profile forms anyway which already makes the resume unimportant.
Nope. Just the PLUM profile.
They can't teach you the personal skills which are required on the job and to interact with senior management. If they think you are capable and come out as smart in the coffee chats then you get an interview.
Let's see what this does to their interns quality.

"The Toronto bank removed the requirement as part of its campus hiring program and has begun using assessments from Waterloo, Ont. technology company Plum to help find untapped talent and ease the barriers to employment among some population groups.
“We are taking away any bias, which would be where did someone go to school, what jobs did they have before and what opportunities did they have or not have based on their upbringing or circumstances?” said James Spearing, Scotiabank’s vice-president of talent acquisition."
“(We’re) removing as much of that possible and giving a level playing field.”
