Barclays best groups 2024

Incoming SA at Barclays and going through group placement process. Spoke to most coverage groups, need to rank them and let groups know what my thinking is.

What groups are best at Barclays now? I know PU, Natres, Sponsors, Industrials, Tech, HC are generally considered among the best, but how would these currently rank for PE exits?

Sponsors, PU, and HC are the top. Sponsors takes almost no juniors though but might be the best generalist group for exits.

babes i'm confused what office you are because placement has been done in north America for a while now. but for NYC centric:

- PE exits in order of what the streets say: power/sponsors (you will probs not get into sponsors unless you went to a specific school. if you do get in, you will also not sleep much.), healthcare (crapshoot regarding placement unless you have an alum rooting for you), consumer (they do a crap ton of pitching these days so idk for sure might be down a notch), Industrials (take a lot of people but idk how mentorship is), tech (hours are NOT fun).

Natres is doing some funky enveloping these days with chemicals. not sure what's up with that. probably still good though.

placement is a total crapshoot, and you really have to be strategic on where your alums are. if you have no alums... develop a winning personality asap!

Group placement finished a while back…but above comments are generally right. In order of exits:

Sponsors, PU&I

Healthcare, Tech, Industrials

NatRes

*the above groups have the legs for MF, UMM, and MM PE looks*

Consumer, FIG

REGAL, Media

Any Product Group

Consumer really doesn’t place that well and just simply doesn’t have the deal flow. Also to correct the above comment, NatRes merged with SIIB to form a new Energy Transition Group. Chemicals was absorbed under Industrials.

Generally, doesn’t really matter much as long as you land coverage. Frankly the rest of your resume, arguably is more important. Unless things have changed in the last 1-2 cycles, HC probably has the best exits given stronger group (despite revolving door for MDs) and more generalist coverage. Tech and Industrials would be second but you may have trouble recruiting given the hours in these groups (know for industrials, this is more of an issue). Power and Natres you have a great shot at top energy/climate funds, but otherwise have largely seen average MM PE. Consumer was regarded as a good group previously, know that was one of the groups hit, but still decent exits behind HC, Tech and Industrials. CMG, FIG and other coverage groups are lower, but good MM/UMM funds definitely very possible. Exclusive sales group also generally punches above its weight. REGAL will be tough like anywhere for generalist PE (still happens), but you’ll get interviews nearly everywhere for REPE depending on the candidate. Overall, Barclays punches above its weight recruiting wise, definitely one of the stronger placements across the street relative to class size. Edit: Sponsors anecdotally strong, but small class size and some analysts choose to stay given good hours

Sponsors are the best group at the bank in terms of getting generalist PE looks, but as mentioned, many people choose to stay and it's a very small class. I am at Barclays and know people in the group/those who were previously in the group.

Have heard the new M&A group that is being formed from exclusive sales might be a good bet as its a growing group
