BB Analyst... H-1B process?

Hello,

I am a Canadian student that recently landed an an analyst position at a BB in NYC. I am currently started the H-1B Visa application process and was wondering who else has been through it. H-1B's are capped with a less than favorable successful application rate. Do you chances of getting granted a Visa improve when you have a large global bank submitting your application for it? thanks

Unfortunately no. It's literally a lottery process. The way it works is your respective company agrees to sponsor you and puts your name forward, from there the its being selected from the govt ( hence the lottery process component) and its out of your company's control. Although, I would mention that your chances for a working Visa increases if you are a Phd student - high quota; higher chances.

Btw, are you canadian? - if you are, another alternative is to the TN Visa (only for canadian candidates), that might be easier to get (not sure).

Hope this was helpful.

which designation would an ECM analyst fall under on the list of TN visas? closest thing that I can see would be "economist//statistician

gotcha. yeah i have been working with them for a few weeks, but its been all about H-1b paperwork thus far. I've been working with international student advisors from my school and they have been helping with the OPT stuff

as a student that graduates in may, I have been told that I am unable to apply for this year's cap. I will have to use my 12 months of OPT and then try for next year's cap. I have also been told that my bank has never used the TN Visa for anyone. I have heard about some firms "massaging" a letter that suffices for the "economist" job on the TN Visa list... anyone have any experience with this?
