BB IBD Associate - Worth Having Home Office?
I'll be starting as a first year IBD associate in NYC soon. Is it worth spending on a home office for my apartment? Let me know your thoughts on whether it makes sense to spend a fair amount on a desk, big computer screen and scanner for my apartment as an associate. Thanks.
I did this a first year analyst and it was the best investment I made for a lifestyle. Obviously you need to be in the office when others are, but if you can sneak off at night when the rest of the team leaves and pick up from home, or more importantly take care of work from home on the weekend instead of having to go into the office, you will be a much happier camper. I would suggest a direct internet line instead of wireless though, in the event that your internet cuts out you don't want to lose work because of VPN / Citrix.
The only downside is you won't get to expense your meals on the weekend ...
Umm.... no lol. Definitely have a laptop or something but I would bank on most of your work time being in the office.
Depends on the banks culture, but I highly doubt it if you are just starting out there and (my assumption from your post) have never worked in IBD before. You'll really need to prove yourself before you get to the point where no one cares where you are because they trust the work will be done right and on-time.
