Berkshire Hathaway - Info?
I have been reading Grahmn and Dodd's Security Analysis and was wondering if anyone had any info on how to apply for positions at Berkshire Hathaway. Omaha wouldn't be the most ideal place but learning from the best would be well worth it.
From what I know, they have very few employees--- all of them have build up strong trust with warren...
You can always apply to companies that B Hathaway owns--- just apply similar to how you would apply to any other jobs
See's Candies Ops.
Go ahead, think I am joking.
They only have about 13-15 people in the office from what I've heard and most, if not all of them, have been there for a long time. I'm from Nebraska and have never heard of anyone ever getting a job in the main office. Like l2010 said, you've got to build up some trust with 'Ol Warren to get up there. Otherwise, I've known people who've worked in at Berkshire Hathaway (the insurance arm) and while it's a good stable job, it's pretty damn boring. Or you could try to run one of his companies.....
Outside of that, Omaha is a great town and you might see the WB in a drive-thru window at Burger King like my brother did. He actually goes to the airport to pick up Gates and one time his car broke down on the way back to his office.....how'd you have like to be the guy who came across those two on the side of a road waiting for a tow truck. Oh and you can buy a mansion for $500k and live like a king.
I met one analyst from Berk(he started his own fund) pretty modest guy. Was an analyst at GS for a few years MBA...the standard.. He said all he did was read annual reports in a windowless room. I believe their group is bigger than just 15. I know he runs lean but there is a number of ppl supporting them. I would probably leave my FT for a SA gig.
I been to omaha before. Descent small city. PRetty comfortable lifestyle. def. no bottle service.
Back to the question.....how to get intouch with someone incharge of recruiting.
Try writing him a snail mail letter and ask who you might get in touch with for a support role and mention the person you met (assuming he had some sort of contact with him). I've written him one before for a speaking event and his office got back to me pretty quickly. If you're really compelling, he might even write you back....but unlikely. Unless you know his secretary's email, that's your best bet, plus it shows your interest taking the time to write a letter....he's old fashioned.
Also, 21 people in the HQ per the interview below....

You must be joking, you have a better shot getting job offers at Google, GS, McK and the White house before you do with Buffett.... thats just my 2 cents
why is it so hard to get into this company? what do people do at this company? trading stocks?
@godlman m
I...honestly don't know how to reply to this. I mean, you don't even need to know what value investing is to know who Warren Buffet is...it's as simple as knowing that Nebraska is somewhere in North America.
^ever hear of value investing, big guy?
Go for it, what's the worse that could happen they say no? IMO snail mail
It's amazing that only about 20 people are on the investment side of BK and WB's portfolio. In contrast, look at Michael Dell, the guy has 100+ people managing his $15Bn net worth.
Might help if you took Grahmn and Dodd's value investing class at CBS...he's an alum
