Best industris for Sophomore finance internships: December
I'm a sophomore a the Ross School of Business (with about a 4.0 GPA). I'd like to do IB or S&T for my junior year internship at a BB.
During my freshman summer at Point 72, I analyzed SEC finings and other online sources to identify revenue drivers that might affect different industry trends; I focused on heath care. I'm seeing that the only BB internships left for sophomores this year are mostly unavailable I waited too long), so now I'm looking into insurance sales with Liberty Mutual (to expand on my healthcare interest), Risk management at a mid-market IB, and hopefully any IB position at boutique and mid-market banks.
I like the Liberty Mutual position because I would learn a lot and would have the chance to potentially close deals using proprietary company data. A banking internship at this point in the recruiting timeline likely wont be a very developed program, but "Investment Banking" over "Insurance Sales" look that much better to recruiters? Also, consider than Liberty Mutual is a much more established company that any smaller bank I might work out.
My question is: What do recruiters want to see for sophomores summer experiences? Is banking always a better option than anything else, for someone ho wants to do banking?
Am I missing something here? Why don't you go back to Point72 and try to take on more responsibility? That would be far more attractive than Liberty Mutual to any ibank next fall.
Yea I'm also certain that Point72 has a sophomore academy, perhaps try asking your contacts there which you hopefully gained over the summer about how to apply
To clarify:
There was a one-day Sophomore Summit Program offered at P72 last year that is no longer available. I should also add that I am participating in a similar one-day sophomore IB program at Lincoln International Bank in January.
