Best keyboard for bankers??
Whats the absolute best keyboard for bankers??? 100 hours a week is a lot, and I don't want to develop carpal tunnel or something like that. Would you suggest the ones with the cushions at the sides? What about the ones with lots of short cuts? Should I just bring my own mac? Also whats the best mouse? I've always thought it would be good to have a good gaming mouse because you don't waste those precious seconds pinpointing the right cell in excel. Also, I want to bring a good mousepad that decreases friction, but is the best at the same time. A good one would cost up to $100 but that's pocket change from what I'll be earning. What DPI would you guys also suggest???

bring your awesome white macbook. also, be sure to ball out on one of those curvy ergonomic keyboards along with a razer(sp?) gaming mouse. the one with the blue LEDs all up in that shit.

Um, I use the blue razer mouse ... I just don't bring it with me to work. Though now that you mention it, that would be pretty baller.

why do bankers get rid of the F1 key? Is it so you gan get to F2 and escape w/o screwing up?
Quants bring custom keyboards, not bankers. Any banker that does that would look like a tool.
f1 brings up the help box in excel which is annoying as fuck considering you press f2 100x a day.
get rid of the INSERT key as well

P.s. I think keyboards and mice are a valid concern. I've grown fond of the logitech dinovo edge and as long as you have a separate num-pad you're good to go. I'm not as much of a fan of the crappy Dell basic stock keyboards that are a dime a dozen.
A great mouse is the logitech MX revolution. The crazy scroll wheel does wonders when you have to scroll down a long spreadsheet, and the shortcut buttons on the side can change your application without alt-tab. Old and dirty input devices really suck; during one of my internships I was stuck with a mouse that still had a mouseball! shudder
Scroll down a long spreadsheet? How long are your models? If you're doing a good resolution with a 70-75% zoom, you shouldn't need more than two or three pg up/downs to navigate. And that is if you are putting everything on one sheet. With multiple worksheets you shouldn't even need to scroll.
I like the bloomberg keyboard a lot but I have found that the keys often get stuck. I use one of those fancy mice that light up at home, keyboard is pretty chic too.

One of our bankers has the Capslock key out, the f1, the numlock,insert,one alt, the +-, and maybe some others. His keyboard is the barest one i have seen but he navigates through excel like an experienced gyno navigates through the vag. amazing.

I don't have a special keyboard or anything, but I have popped keys off mine, and it really does help.
Right now, I've removed the bottom left windows key, the caps lock key, and F1.
It actually really does help me work faster...
I have a Razer keyboard and mouse at home...
But if I brought it to work I think people would laugh at me, both behind my back and in my face.
If you do a lot of photochop work, making pretty pitchbooks etc., I would definitely get a decent optical or laser mouse, thoughP DPI won't have any effect (DI only comes in to play when you move the mouse quickly, ie playing Counterstrike). Just get one that fits comfortably in your hand, and that you can use accurately.
Keyboard wise, you can get one with programmable macro keys, which might save you some time, but I doubt it's worth it.
If I paid for anything in my office, I would buy more monitors, instead of peripherals. Efficiency gained there is a lot greater. Just me though.

Nah it's way cooler just to rip off the f1 than getting some program to disable it, makes it look more old school. Talking about deskside comforts I think your chair is actually by far the most important thing. I recently got my hands on a new one thanks to a departure, my back feels way better (previous one sort of encouraged me to lean forwards all the time)

keyboard and mouse dont make that big of a difference - esp the mouse. as was mentioned above, make sure your chair comfortable and you rip out the f1, caps lock, num lock keys at the very least.
seriously do not bring in your own keyboard/mouse - you will look like fool

I don't think it's too ridiculous, if you're spending all that time at your computer might as well be as comfortable as possible.
Get a mechanical keyboard. You'll thank me later.

A mechanical keyboard would be wonderful for annoying the hell out of the entire office. Alternatively, it could be a great productivity check.

I'll look again on Monday, but I think we all have mechanical keyboards at the office. They look a lot like the keyboard goblan linked to, but they are by Lenovo. Just watched some YouTube videos on cherry brown keyboards and they seem a bit quieter.
