Best Gen/Model/Specs for Lenovo X1

Hi all, my computer broke recently and need to get it replaced (for personal and occasional work use). I'm thinking of buying a Lenovo X1 Carbon for my new computer. Do any of you guys have recs on which of the currently available gen / specs (i5 vs i7, gen 10 vs 11 vs 12, etc) should I get? Something that's not too expensive but can handle the work (while not overheating, fan noise, or lagging).

Thanks!

Based on previous WSO threads, here are some recommendations for a Lenovo X1 Carbon that balances performance and cost:

Recommended Specifications:

  • Processor: 9th Gen Intel Core i5 or i7
  • RAM: 8+ GB DDR4
  • Storage: SSD (preferably hybrid if possible)
  • Battery: Good battery life
  • Screen: High-quality display
  • Keyboard: Comfortable and responsive keypad

Key Points:

  • Performance: The 9th Gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processors are recommended for their balance of performance and efficiency.
  • Memory: At least 8 GB of DDR4 RAM ensures smooth multitasking and handling of applications like Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Storage: An SSD, especially a hybrid one, will provide faster boot times and quicker access to files.
  • Battery Life: Ensure the model has a good battery life to support long hours of use without frequent charging.
  • Display and Keyboard: A good screen and a comfortable keyboard are essential for prolonged use, especially for tasks involving a lot of typing.

User Experiences:

  • catwiththehat mentioned getting a Lenovo ThinkPad with a student discount and sale price, which performed well even with multiple tabs and applications open.
  • C.R.E. Shervin recommended Lenovo or Dell with similar specs, emphasizing the importance of a good screen and keypad.

Conclusion:

For a Lenovo X1 Carbon, aim for a model with the above specifications to ensure it meets your needs without overheating or lagging. Look for deals or discounts to get the best value for your money.

Recently got the x1 carbon gen 12 and it runs like a racehorse. Highly recommend this plus Lenovo is having a sale rn so you could prob get it for like 50% off. Honestly if your using this strictly for work then I don’t think i5 v i7 really matter
