Best Time to Start Networking

Hi all, when is the best time to start networking? I am a rising sophomore at a target. Some of my friends started networking last spring which I thought was too early and would be hard to stay connected/maintain that relationship. I know a few people who are going to start networking come fall. I am thinking about starting now or August but I wanted to get various insights into what timeline worked and allowed you guys to get the best results for those who have already been through the process. Appreciate any feedback.

Put yourself in the shoes of the people you are networking with. Would you go out of your way to help some kid you only talked to on the phone just once around the time interviews are happening? You want to help the person who has kept up with you, asked for your advice and has actually grown because of it. Networking is building relationships. Don't be worried about keeping up with everyone if you aren't vibing. Some will connections fizzle out. One solid connection can take you way further than 20 shitty ones.
