Big 4 TS financial due diligence ---> IBD, input please
Long time reader here, rarely post.
Have been working in financial due diligence - private equity group at a big 4 firm for 2 years now. starting to wonder if I want to continue or not. has anybody made the transition from a similar situation to banking/PE? curious to see others input. I ultimately would like to work in PE but plan on business school as well.
For those in banking, is it fairly easy transition? I would say that I have excellent excel skills, analytical skills, accounting skills (prob. more than enough for banking), not a stranger to the demanding schedule at all (including travel). I have never built a model, although I review/examine them on almost every deal we work on, including building the QoE adjustments which are ultimately fed into client's model. That being said I don't think I would have a hard time picking it up, but curious to see what others think.

If you are planning on going to B-School I would just stick with the TS group for now - I would think it would look funny if you went to another job for a year (or less) then applied to MBA programs.

I suggest you spend some time in the FDD since it will give you a very good orientation of how to assess the business from a financial perspective, a merit always needed in any field. AT the same time, doing an ACCA or CFA will be a great boost for you...The best option is to work over both, you can ask your supervisor to work over a Business DD for an assignment or two, just to feel the Gist of it Good luck

I'm currently interning at a Big 4 in their FDD team. The work is pretty interesting but I don't see it as a long term career path. I want to make the jump over to IB maybe after a year or so working in FDD FT (assuming I get an offer). This is my current profile as of now:
Attending strong target with a 3.0 GPA studying straight finance. Did pretty crappy first year and a half but really picked myself up last 3 semesters, averaging a 3.7 GPA.
Prior internships in VC, a well known AM firm, and a boutique IB dealing with small caps.
The aforementioned Big 4 FDD gig. Bare in mind I'm not in the US, and the FDD team in my country is inside the CF teams at Big 4 firms.
How can I market myself to make the jump after a year in FDD? Has anybody done this sort of jump before? I'm open to doing a masters (an MBA isnt seen in the same light as in the US) and sticking around an extra 2 years before moving.
I'm just confused and would appreciate any tips to help me out.

What country is this internship in? I think Big 4 FDD carries more prestige outside the US. If IB is your end goal, recruiting for FT this summer/fall wouldn't be a bad idea I think. Your past experience and attending a target school will work to your advantage. Although the modeling skillset gained in TS Valuation is more favored to that of FDD from bankers perspective, FDD > IB is still very common. So if you network heavily, you will have a good shot at landing interviews either this year or the next. Good luck.

Hey fellow monkeys, I'm a rising senior looking to get into IB for full-time, but not sure if I stand a chance at all. My stats are as follows:
Top state school (Berkeley/UCLA/UVA/UMich/UT Austin), but not in the B-school. Big 4 Transaction Services FDD intern right now, getting some interesting M&A due diligence experience at the moment. (Don't ask me how I got this without being an accting/fin major lol) Prior internship at a tiny VC firm. 3.5 ish GPA. (strong upward trend though, like 2.5 in freshman yr then 3.9s every year after)
Do I stand a chance without OCR? The reason why I say no OCR is because my school strictly does not allow non-business majors to use business OCR, and our regular OCR has practically nothing. How competitive is my profile for FULL-TIME recruiting without OCR? Am I screwed? Thanks.
What should be my best steps to take? I'm trying to cold-email, but to be honest it doesn't seem to work that well, especially at BBs. I have a cousin on the street but that's about it for connections. What would you do if you were in my shoes?
I'm looking at BBs, MMs and any 'legit' boutiques.

My advice to you...is to start drinking heavily.
Big 4 FDD from what I've seen is actually not a bad spot to be in to get into IB. I have a friend of a friend out in SF doing BB TMT IB straight from undergrad (non-target) and his only finance related internship was a PwC FDD summer stint. I've also networked with a couple Big 4 FDD guys who made it into IB after a year or two. You just have to network hard and relate the FDD job as much as possible to IB.... SELL yourself. Regarding your other questions, I'd get advice from someone else.
