BlackRock Internal Mobility

For those who know BlackRock employees or enough about the firm....How strong is internal mobility at BlackRock? How long would it take for a 1st year analyst in a help desk type role to move to something more favorable like PAG, would this type of move even be likely to happen? Are there certain restrictions for employees when it come to moving to another group? Also, how common is it to move from PAG to S&T, does it happen?

Kris KringleI'm more into trading. My resume screams "Sales" but it's just not for me.
I hear a lot of people say that, and depending on your experience working with the traders, "I'm more into trading" either means "I want to be a portfolio manager at an investment management firm" or "I want to be a market-maker".

If you want to be a portfolio manager, sales is not a bad place to land at all. If you make enough good recommendations to clients, you can go get an MBA or finance PhD, and come out with a lot of friends that know you're good at investment decisions. Sales is also a lot less stressful than trading in most cases.

That said, you've probably got enough experience that you really mean that you want to be a trader. If that's the case, you may want to consider a financial engineering degree if you've got the math background. You can probably find some good advice for getting into these programs at Wilmott.com and QuantNet.com.

Thanks man. Anyone else? Any input on my last question? Moving from BLK PAG to trading? This move would potentially be 3-4 years down the road, possibly less and without an MBA. Is it even possible to move into S&T without an MBA at that point?
