Unneeded but respected. Know some people who have them. When you see the CFA in an email sign off, there's a little nod of appreciation. If you have the time and willpower to go for it, I'd say go for it. If you're already in banking and you're wondering if this is a need-to-have, it's not.
Work at a Credit HF with a big private credit pocket. Short answer is nah. Throughout my experience, the CFA is, in my opinion, most useful for Equity Research or Long Only / Mutual Fund roles.
