Boston College vs Fordham FOR NY

I finally brought my decision to fordham or boston college. let me first note that fordham gave me $ and that is an influence for me.

When attending both accepted students days, I noticed that BOTH said that they are relatively equal regarding placement IN NY. Is this true? a semi-target such as BC and a non-target in Fordham? what have you seen on the street (in S&T and asset managment too)?

Finally, does a 3.5+ give me any shot at what I aspire to do?

thanks as always

You should base your decision entirely on the current Celtics-Knicks series. Winning city gets your attendance.

But seriously, independently of the NBA playoffs, you should go to BC.

if you wanna be in NY I'd say Fordham. It's an up-and-coming place and a lot of banks are beginning to target it. All about grades and networking and it's not like Fordham is a community college

I go to Fordham. PM me with any questions. You can certainly break in from Fordham, I know plenty of people doing it. Plus networking is pretty solid since you are already in NY and can go meet with people (plus you have a head start since you are interested now)

To the poster who said it is 20 vs. 100, you are completely wrong. BC is 31 on US News rankings, and Fordham is 56 (and rising, having been 83 when I first got to the school a few years ago).

I'm pretty sure he was referencing business schools. BC was in the top 10 last year, it's #16 now. And Fordham was #83 last year and is like #52 now.

Definitely go to BC, I think your overall college experience would be better, and it is recruited better. I have a kid from BC in my group and he's a great Analyst and fun to party with. Not saying Fordham isn't a great school, and I think you could definitely get into banking from there, but I feel like you would have a more stereotypical college experience at BC.

Does BC have frats? We don't have any frats at Fordham (its an all bar scene, although you can get into any bar at 18, and I've never been carded at the liquor store ever). Plus if you have cash to burn you can go out downtown in Manhattan.

I'm going to cast my vote for BC as well. It's always good to have a backup plan. If banking doesn't work out, you'll want a strong name on your resume that will carry with you for the rest of your career.

I wouldn't put much weight on the fact that a school is "up and coming." The truth is, school perception rarely changes in the short period that you're going to be there. Also, what matters is the perception of the individual trying to hire you. Just because a school is moving up in the rankings doesn't mean that employers are going to change their perception of it (they may not even be aware).

^agree with all of the above. Go to BC. It also give you exposure to Boston and NYC recruiting where as Fordham is only NYC.

I go to BC, PM me with any questions. And to who ever asked about the Frats, BC currently has one in the process of chartering (SigEp). It's not recognized by the university, but the National Fraternity recognizes the chapter I believe.

BC is way better, tons of kids go to New York, plenty in the bulge brackets, plenty in middle market. In all honesty it shouldn't even really be a question. The life at BC will be so much better. And from what I hear, Fordham only has like 2 or 3 buildings total.
