Breaking into ER/IB/Investment Management from 1 year research heavy sales role

Hello,

I know you guys can be quite brutal on here, but be nice I’m just a first time poster.

I’m finishing my first year at a pretty large wealth manager doing research, mostly into competitors.

I have CFA level 2 passed and have my sights on level 3. I also have pretty extensive financial modelling experience that I’ve been working on in the past year during my own time. There’s some opportunities to start moving into a more equity research heavy role within the firm, but I would ideally want to do ER somewhere else so I don’t have to move abroad.

I’m wondering what the game plan is here to break into the more elite world of finance, the IB, ER, PE, and maybe more investment analysis roles.

I’ve got internship experience but none very specific to these, but both are with big name companies.

I’m one year out of University and went to a top university (although not LSE or Oxbridge).

Any help with what prospects I have and potential plan would be amazing.
