Breaking into NYC IB with a 3.63/4 GPA
I have pretty extensive extracurricular experience, I’m in a couple of investment clubs, do a bunch of case comps. Do I stand a chance with very good networking at any of the boutique shops?

got it to top bb with 3.3, nondiversity nontarget with no connections, networking is the key!
Same here, 3.2 from a southern non target currently at a MM. If you want it bad enough anyone can get in
backoffice huh?
Loool IB going through placements now, lool I had to work hard for it sent over 1k emails in a year bum
Nope, currently in a coverage group at a well known MM bank in NYC.
I was able to break in once everyone started quitting last summer. I applied to every opening, made sure I knew my technicals front and back, got 3 interviews and ended up with 2 offers. Not sure why the MS, just trying to help out
PM in HF mad that some kid went to Georgia and had fun for 4 years still broke into IBD while he sat in Yale's library on Saturdays intermittently beating off to cuckhold porn. There are more places with solid business schools outside of HYPSM, believe it or not.
Won't be a problem with good networking
Also if the case competitions are consulting focused I'd par them down on your resume to a few lines - kinda a red flag to have a very case heavy resume for IB, makes it seem like you might prefer consulting
Thanks for the input, that makes a ton of sense!
Thank you to everyone that replied. Appreciate it.
What school?
McGill University. Target school for LionTree and some alumni across some other shops as well.
I'm at McGill. Placed at a top bank in NYC. If you're serious about this, I can help you. DM me.
3.6 at semi target had BB/MM interviews at respectable groups. Networking wins.
Sorry we cut off at 3.65/4.00.
JK, confidence let’s go!
do you go to a target? Are you a senior? Do you have previous experience
interned at a no name boutique, and was able to recruit FT at every MM, and ultimately signed an offer at one. Similar profile, non-target large state school with a solid undergrad program. Networking always wins. Unsure how many cold emails and linkedin messages I sent last year, but it was heinous. Ultimately, I think being personable was a huge selling point of myself and that I'd be a valuable member of the team (especially as the role becomes more client facing with each promotion), not just a CS major who can bang out models.
Is a 3.6 still competitive all in this time and age? Seems like theres a sea of 3.9+ target kids out there
