Can anyone shed any light on Allen & Company?

There are two great threads here:

https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forum/investment-…

https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forum/investment-…

But I have a few questions that I haven't been able to find answers to anywhere:

1. Any idea on $ AUM for the firm's investment arm?

2. How large is said investment arm (headcount)?

3. How tf do they seemingly get on every enormous deal? They have to have one of the most impressive total deal TV to number of deal ratios in the industry

4. There is obviously something special about these guys as they host an annual conference that Warren Buffett attends (who infamously hates investment bankers). What gives?

5. Is there movement between the sell-side and buy-side arms of the company?

6. What is pay like?

7. Culture? Hours?

Any information would be greatly appreciated! They seem like a very interesting place to work.

Allen puts on the Sun Valley conference every year. Basically invites all the heavy hitters from every industry to shoot the shit with each other, most notably Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Zuckerberg, Tim Cook, etc.

This event is pretty exclusive and a status symbol to even be invited to, and since Allen & Co. runs it, they’re bound to have a couple marquee mandates come their way.

Edit: Totally missed that you had the conference mentioned on your post already. Yes, Buffett hates bankers but uses the conference to see his friends and vacation with his family lol

It’s interesting because Buffett usually isn’t one to care about status, especially extrinsic status bestowed upon him by some other organization (particularly from an investment bank of all things).

Have to question Buffett’s conviction against investment banks a bit tbh. Though I know A&C are “value investors” on their buyside arm and are big on KO like BRK so maybe that’s a link.
