Can bankers send old deal decks to incoming interns
I’m choosing my desks soon for my rotational internship and I want to learn about some of the syndicate deals to get a better grasp of the desk. Title says it all, if they can’t what should I ask for to learn about the desk? I have a strong connection to a VP on the team who I would reach out to for this.
Lol why do you want to be on a syndicate desk?
For s&t
No, this is a bad idea. You're asking for MNPI to be sent outside the firm so you can do advance homework / be a hardo?

I would use it to decide what desk to intern and hopefully work on for my career, but thanks for the comment. I’m trying to decide if it’s better to call you a prick or an idiot
Call me a prick, then, because I know what I'm talking about. Jesus, if you can't take a little good natured ribbing, please reconsider your career path. You're welcome for helping you avoid a bad move. No banker is allowed to send you any research, deck, or file of any kind. It's incredibly sensitive.
The way I would approach your situation, if you know somebody well, is to just set up informational chats and have them walk you through the syndication process, their role vs. other groups, what they like and have learned the most about, what the most challenging part of the role is, their thoughts on career development / how they made it from Associate to VP, etc. You just want to keep it limited to verbal discussion vs. any files sent back and forth.
Unlikely - they usually sign a nondisclosure agreement and would not be able to send it to you.
That’s what I figured, are there desk memos or research reports that would be better?
There’s probably a lot of stuff that’s old enough to send you safely. Don’t think the lecture you got was necessary given that you said old decks.
The real problem I see is that it feels like too much of a hardo or brown noser move. Like, I’m a banker “living the dream” (sarcasm) and some kid who’s actually living the dream in college is wanting to read my stupid memos and decks. And I have to read the kids email and if I want to be helpful I have to go digging through some folder to find shit to send. You sure you really need this info to choose a desk?
the solution here is simple - email people from different teams and ask to go for coffee before the internship begins. they may be able to bring some showpiece docs along (e.g. quarterly reports on their team's activities).
