Can I break into high finance from a target?

Hey everybody,

I am an upcoming freshman at a target school. I am interested in finance. If I leverage connections hard and focus on prepping for technicals or joining clubs would I be able to break in to IB/PE/S&T/VC if I keep up a high GPA?

What do you guys think?

I doubled in Phil & Econ at one of those schools mentioned and am now in IB. It's very doable, just need to make sure you network, join clubs, obtain internships and have a convincing reason for choosing with path. Philosophy was also my passion and I don't regret for one second doing this in addition to having to self-study some of the niche accounting concepts.

You'll lose out on opportunities not due to a lack of talent or ability, but moreso on convincing your interviewers throughout the process as to why you want to pursue high finance while your studies indicate interests elsewhere.

Hey so idk what it's like in America so take this with a grain of salt but from what I know in the UK where I'm from your degree doesn't matter as long as you go to a target school, but you should be able to explain why you chose that degree and especially over something like econ.

Ok I see. Do you have any recommendations for me then as a fellow phil major to be? Also would you recommend that I double major in phil-econ? Do you with you did looking back?

do a minor in math to prove you're not a scrub. will make you a better philosopher as well.
