Can't be around people who use, so how common is drug use in IB?

I grew up surrounded by serious drug addicts. As such, I don't touch drugs like a Mormom, but I'm not Mormom.

But also, if people around me were actively snorting/smoking or if I even knew they were under the influence, that would extremely trigger me and I would quit ASAP. The only mind altering substance I can stand people using is coffee/caffeine.

However, maybe it's not as bad as it seems in the movies/shows. This is one of the deciding factors if I should pursue this career path.

You will never see it at the office, ever, if you did then that person is gonna get fired. Unless you're close friends people are secretive about what they do in their free time.

However, honestly I think if you are offended by people drinking alcohol this career might not work for you. People will tell you its okay to not drink and be in banking, and this is probably ok-- I know a Mormon guy at another bank-- but there are going to be so many events you really need to go to that involve alcohol. The team bonding (and networking) at firm-related happy hours is invaluable and there will be plenty of client events at bars etc as you work your way up the ladder. If you can't order a diet coke and then go be as outgoing and social as your drunk coworkers this is going to be tough.

Yes, people will smoke and drink around you. Yes, people drink and discreetly take stimulants in the office. No, people are not snorting lines openly on their desks.

Are you including alcohol as a trigger also? Drug use is more discreet and would be easier for you to turn a blind eye to, but alcohol, I mean, are you planning to never attend any social events? That would be a challenge for your career growth. And nobody is really going to pressure you to have to drink, but people certainly will be drinking around you. So if that's gonna trigger you, that'll be a problem.

You won't see it around the office but people in literally every line of work do drugs, hate to break it to you. Finance might be higher on the curve for sure but literally any office has guys who like to fuck around. Friends in law, medicine, programming, consulting, even fucking government, to name a few.
