Career pivot - thoughts?

Hi all - been several years since I’ve last posted and checking in anonymously for some thoughts from the group.

I’m a third year associate at a sector-focused boutique and up for VP promotion at year-end, with a verbal towards owning my own coverage vertical over the next few years (think a nascent focus area such as cannabis tech, blockchain, etc.). However, I have been offered an exciting industry role at a growth-stage start-up in the same vertical with a sizable pay cut, but meaningful equity upside. I think I would like this new role more — and don’t think the senior banker life is attractive long-term — but am cognizant of potentially kicking a gift horse in the mouth, given my career has been in IBD to-date and have done well.

Leaning towards taking the new job but curious to the group’s wisdom.

Thanks.
