Checklist of things to look out for before sending deliverables

Hi guys,

I’ve been noticing after the fact that i fail to catch some errors and stuff and have been called out a few times now. I’d say im pretty detail-oriented but sometimes when its 11pm / 12am after a long day i just cant focus anymore. Anyone have a checklist / handy tricks to try and catch all the mistakes possible before sending deliverables?

  • check that every instance of the same number matches. For example, if you have 2019 revenue on page 14, make sure it matches to the chart you have on page 6

  • much easier to catch mistakes when stuff is printed out or in pdf form

  • work on something else right before you send materials off so you can look at it with fresh eyes

  • look for large deviations or outliers in any numbers you put on a page. If 2019 EBITDA is1.5x 2018 EBITDA for a mature company, there's probably an error there

Second this. Saves time versus sending something with an error that requires another turn.

Also recommend trying to work consciously - before you finish a page, scan everything you did and see if the formatting looks good, spelling is right, numbers make sense. You should tie all of the numbers before sending it up, but scan every page you do before moving onto the next as an intermediate way to catch errors.
