CISI Exams - Reg + Sec

Hi,

Incoming ER analyst here. I have CISI exams coming.

How long should the preparation be for regulation and securities ? I was thinking of learning only the mock exams. Any advice for those who passed the tests ? Just to be efficient.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and advice for preparing for financial regulation and securities exams:

  1. Preparation Time:

    • For the SIE exam, users have reported varying preparation times:
      • 10 days with 1.5-2 hours per night (with a finance background).
      • 8 weeks with 1-2 hours per night.
    • For the Series 63/79 exams, one user mentioned spending 10 days studying, focusing on understanding situational scenarios for BDs, Agents, IAs, and IARs.
  2. Study Strategy:

    • Read Study Materials: It's crucial to read the entire study book and take notes, especially on details that are not heavily emphasized.
    • Practice Problems: Spend time doing practice problems and mock exams. This helps gauge your understanding and identify areas needing improvement.
    • Mock Exams: Highly recommended to take multiple practice exams, especially from reliable sources like Kaplan or the FINRA website. This will help you get a feel for the exam format and types of questions.
  3. Additional Tips:

    • Flashcards: Create and use flashcards to reinforce key concepts.
    • Online Resources: Enroll in live or online prep courses if available.
    • FINRA Mock Exams: For the SIE exam, taking the mock exam on the FINRA website is highly recommended as it provides a fair gauge of your understanding.
  4. Exam Specifics:

    • SIE Exam: 75 multiple choice questions, 1 hour 45 minutes, $60 cost, and requires a 70% passing score.
    • Series 63/79: Focus on situational scenarios and understanding the roles and regulations for BDs, Agents, IAs, and IARs.

By following these strategies and dedicating sufficient time to study, you can efficiently prepare for your CISI exams. Good luck!
