Citi IB Group Reputation?

I got an offer for Citi IB SA and I was curious to hear what the consensus was about Exit Opps and Reputation for some of its groups. I am interested in Media & Comms, M&A, and Industrials, but wanted to hear what other people think. I know for M&C it’s not as strong as the boutiques that do it like EVR, PWP, and PJT, but are the exits still decent? I’m pretty interesting in the space. Will I get real deal experience or do they do more Debt Financings and Equity Offerings?

M&A I’m guessing does well across the board but is probably pretty competitive. I’ve heard good things about Industrials as well but nothing about exits.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I've heard the M&C and Industrials groups do their own modeling, which is rare for a coverage group at Citi. How were you able to get an interview - did you network a lot or was there OCR? Thanks a bunch and congrats

"lswso" Citi FIG also does its own modeling (also only has two verticals - BDF and Insurance) and handles most of its own M&A work as well (although that is starting to change).

You forgot asset management and Fintech. Also Banks and Diversified Financials are arguably two separate verticals.

and no, it's not starting to change. Maybe stop posting for a while.

I have friends in none of the groups you've mentioned, but here's what I do know:

  • Citi is a leader in Energy & Power

  • Their Consumer practice is a bit sweaty and kind of a pitch shop. But as they build momentum, that might change?

  • Tech has a chill culture

Either way, you're at one of the better BB's. I don't know anyone who is unhappy there. You'll have great exit opps.
