cold email vs cold mailing

so this question is probably stupid but I did a pretty thorough search and didnt get a solid answer. I am trying to get an unpaid internship of some kind in PWM this summer (Im a sophmore) so next summer I'll have a better shot at the real thing. My question is... e-mail or just mail the cover letter. I was thinking I was just gonna mail cover letter+ resume to the local branch managers of these banks but I very rarley see anything about "cold mailing" people. Is this o.k. or should I use email.

Email the resume and cover letter. It makes it easier for them to store it/look at it when they need to. Also, makes it easier to forward to HR.

ok so just attach the cover letter and resume... what then should the email say since I've covered my reason for contacting them etc in my cover letter?

I agree - email the docs - it is simpler, more convenient and being that it is a cold-sending (an not a request), you definitely want to make it as easy as possible and get in front of them as quickly as possible.

Regarding the email itself, you've got 2 choices (I've used both and both work): 1) use the body of the email as your cover letter and attach your resume, or 2) use the body of the email to draft a few sentences on your interest in the position and that you've attached your resume and cover letter to the email. Make a decision and run with it. Good luck.

ok... I was just about to mail these out but I've been swayed. I have already taken many pains writing this cover letter, if I choose option 1 can I just use my exact cover letter as the e-mail or do emails need to be written/formatted differently. If I choose 2, I really feel like my cover letter addresses my interest in the position etc and that it would be redundant to repeat that in the email and then send a cover letter repeating the same thing.

this sounds familiar...are you the same guy that rode 1500 miles on horseback to bring me your resume on the stone tablets?
