Corporate finance vs restructering
Hi all,
Currently i'm in position to choose between two job offers. One offer is a corporate finance associate role within a relatively small real estate company. The team is nice, they have a shared goal/ mission. Role involves a lot of financial modelling, international travelling (thus international experience), customised training program, ability to move up quickly in case of strong performance (go to investor meetings).
The other offer that I received is from the Big 4, restructuring team (associate). There is structure, I know exactly what to do in the next 2 years. So to a lesser extent an adventure. Advantage is a well-known name on your resume.
I already know what it is like to work for big corporations. During college I had the possibility to work for some well known banks .
My main goal is to build up a strong financial (modelling) skills and switch to Private Equity later on in my career. What would be a good pick in your opinion?
is there anyone who is able to share his thoughts? I have to respond tomorrow already ...
i'd go with the restructuring role for more transaction experience (which corporate finance does not offer at all) but I will let others chime in

I second the restructuring experience, restructuring requires a complex skillset ex. working with debtors and creditors, legal docs, etc. and building that early on in your career will only serve you well in the future whether you want to pursue distressed/special situations investing or plain-vanilla PE, while obviously not as structured at the 2 year IB -> 2 year PE route, the restructuring experience will without a doubt get you some looks
what did you choose?
I chose for corporate finance. restructuring would have been the 'rational' choice for me. Structured program, learning specific skills while i'm still quite young. But then I will never find out where more risk in my career may lead to. In addition, in a small company I can be part of the whole process once an acquisition takes place i.e. data gathering, create models, valuation, presentations, due diligence and fund raising. Last, i will start traveling internationally for work shortly which is great.
