CVP exits vs other EBs and Top BBs

We all know that CVP is 3yrs analyst program, so they do on-cycle a year after their fellow graduates.

Hows CVP exits recently? I’m guessing it’s on par with EVR, PJT, and top BBs? They will have more reps and an extra year to prep. Can someone share thoughts on this?

Centerview Partners (CVP) exits are generally strong, but there are nuances to consider when comparing them to other elite boutiques (EBs) like Evercore (EVR) and PJT, as well as top bulge brackets (BBs).

  1. Exit Opportunities:
CVP analysts do have solid exit opportunities, but based on the most helpful WSO content, exits at CVP are often considered slightly more "compromised" compared to Evercore and PJT. This doesn't mean CVP analysts don't land great roles; they still place into top private equity (PE) firms and hedge funds. However, Evercore and PJT are often highlighted for having the most consistent placements into mega funds (MFs) and upper middle market (UMM) firms.

  2. Three-Year Analyst Program:
The three-year program at CVP does give analysts more time to prepare for on-cycle recruiting, which can be an advantage. However, it also means they recruit a year later than their peers at other firms, which could impact timing for certain opportunities. This structure is unique to CVP and may appeal to those who value additional experience before making the jump.

  3. Comparison to Top BBs:
While top BBs like Goldman Sachs (GS) and Morgan Stanley (MS) have larger analyst classes and therefore more alumni in PE, CVP analysts are often seen as more polished due to the firm's intense focus on training and development. That said, the sheer volume of analysts at BBs means they dominate PE recruiting in terms of numbers, but on a percentage basis, CVP analysts are highly competitive.

  4. Reputation and Culture:
CVP is known for its strong culture and focus on consumer and retail sectors, which can influence exit opportunities. Analysts who are particularly interested in these verticals may find CVP to be a better fit compared to other EBs or BBs.

In summary, CVP exits are strong but may not be as consistently elite as Evercore or PJT, especially for mega fund placements. However, the firm's unique three-year program and strong training can be advantageous for those who value additional preparation and experience.
