Dad started a company, should I mention it in interview?
So Ive got a superday with a boutique and it's with senior bankers. On my resume i have a position i did at a startup that is in the industry im interviewing for. Is it smart or unwise to mention to the senior bankers that my dad is the one who founded said company?
If I was the interviewer, I would assume you got the job because of your dad, not your capabilities.
If you clarify that the company was started by your father, people might make the association that you were not hired on the basis of merits. However, if you kept your father out of it, it wouldn't take long time for recruiters to find the name under which the company is registered should they want to probe. I'd settle somewhere in between: say its a family-led business. It may sound like you entered the company with ease, but it also ties you to the performance of the company (which you may or may not be able to back up with data).
