Debt Route Options from Commercial Banking
1.5 year analyst at a BB middle market commercial bank. Our group does fairly large, complex deals that touch the debt markets. So far, I enjoy debt financing, however realizing now is the time to get out of commercial banking if I want to be on buy-side long-term.
In short, what is the next best step to eventually be in PE/Direct Lending/Mezz? Do I need to do a LevFin or coverage IB stint before attempting buy-side? As I am now, am I competitive for any MM PE/Direct Lending/Mezz firm? If so, best way to begin recruiting with no formal recruitment program?
Lastly, would greatly appreciate debt/mezz shop suggestions in SF/Seattle/NYC.
General Background: Non-Target yet strong Texas public college; strong GPA; PE internship
