Deferred FT Start (London)
Hi all, how common is it to get deferred starts for FT? This is for a large BB bank in a London IBD role. I want to go travelling, but open to ideas for excuses!

Many analysts start their training programs in July, so I think that's something you wouldn't want to miss and it might be difficult to skip it.
Depending on the bank they have intakes in the winter as well.
It isn't common, at least with larger banks with organised training programs (as another poster stated, HR are very keen that new joiners bond with these things). You might be able to ask for a deferral for a full year, but especially in this market I'd be hesitant to do that (andseparately, the way HR work is that they forecast their expected Grad intake needs one and two years out, and use that to determine the number of interns to give offers to - so their grad intake needs in a year from now is covered by existing interns. HR don't like it when you mess with this)
True but heard from an HR at a top MM (London) that if you have a good reason for deferral they'll allow it (although travel most likely is not)
