As amazing as it would be to pull the spontaneous dead relative call at work, I really don't think that move brings any advantages.

Email your staffer in the morning, say you can't come in because you were told about the death that morning, and you're going to catch a last minute flight home. I'm guessing you must be in a seriously brutal group if you're having to resort to fake deaths, so make sure you actually check flight times so your story holds up (seriously, I've seen some totally anal staffers bust fake excuses with this).

wow that just sounds like terrible culture. good luck man with the whole fake death thing

I wouldn't be talking about this with so much details here. I haven't met anyone in finance who hasn't heard of WSO, though we avoid talking about WSO, I'm pretty sure at least half of us read WSO. There's real good chance your staffer and someone from your team is reading this. That being said, I hope you're actually from Carolina. If you're not, I don't mean to offend you but I think a proper funeral process in India or Asian countries take more than a few days- which means you'll have to be gone for a week to make the story more believable.

Bourbon all day.

I do not recommend the fake call at work, however if you do wind up going with it PLEASE make sure to come back and let us know how it goes, because I just laughed my ass off imagining it and I'm sure others did too lol.

in it 2 win it

DoubleBottomLine is right. I was concerned before even paying attention to your user name ( I certainly would have if I work with an Indian who called in sick a couple times last month.) Just delete your post and pray that no one from your group read this already.

Bourbon all day.

Instead of faking the death of a relative, fake your own death and then show up to the office after you're done with interviews and try to act like nothing happened.

If that doesn't float your boat then I would definitely agree with the above. I would think that chances are pretty good that someone at your office either has read this, or is going to read this at some point in the next day or two... you should delete this.

Go with Bens response. Next time smarten up and use Thailand/Korea/Japan instead of India (or at least put in wrong country)

At first I was thinking he maybe he did lie about the country, but then I see his username says Sid. So more than likely isn't lying about the India part lol

Likely not lying. Unless the username is to confuse us also. The employer likely now knows he is (name) from (country) who works in (industry)and...... applying elsewhere. Sure it is not hard to find out his identity and connect the dots:(

(in case he decides to edit)

Call the office and inform that you are unfortunately dead and need to fly to India for your own funeral. Then request a week off so you have enough time to be buried.

I love how everyone is giving OP shit for posting too much personal information and then just bumps the thread and reposts his information so it becomes impossible for him to even get rid of it.

Bump.

"For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Bloody Mary full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now and at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon. Amen."

I cant wait to see him post his staffers response:

"Sid, this is outrageous...We will be sitting down TOMORROW to discuss not only this, but also your future here in our firm...Hope the interview you have is worth collecting foodstamps for"

I eat success for breakfast...with skim milk

^Really unnecessary. Not quoting you because maybe you will reconsider and take it down.

I usually avoid these things but I don't stand for shady shit from junior staff and interns and what users on this site continue to post. I've seen so much crap pulled including a fake-death story before with an intern (oddly enough, also "going back to India" for the funeral as well). Either kill the entire thread or leave it up because if a kid attempts an idiotic move like this have the balls to take up accountability. The OP didn't post this as a mistake, he did it as a calculated decision.

no need to rationalize. you went out of your way to try to fuck this kid for no apparent reason.

you don't "stand for shady shit"? uh..interviewing for another job is inherently shady and requires lying. whether it's a fake death or a fake illness makes little difference. if you have a problem with that you shouldn't work on wall street or post on a wall street forum. this is probably the highest turnover profession on earth and people lie constantly in order to meet headhunters, prepare/attend interviews, etc. most people aren't as stupid about it as this kid but don't try to justify malicious behavior.

wso isn't deleting anymore threads...so you're basically screwing him over after he took it down- therefore he's not a troll, or a really really good one. Theres like 5 other people though who still have key words up in their posts...o well, guess he deserves it.
