Did I stumble upon the best gig in “high finance”?
Hi Monkeys,
I recently just signed a new grad offer to join a Canadian Banks Corporate Banking Analyst program in May of 2025.
The Base Salary is CAD$100K, with what i’ve heard to be a bonus of 40-50% — correct me if i’m wrong.
From my understanding, corporate banking is a different universe from IB in terms of working hours and conditions.
As someone who’s never worked in CB before, is this a good start to my career? What are the opportunities?
Really appreciate some colour on this.
Gonna assume this is National? Afaik they pay the highest to their cb team relative to the other big 5 (who mostly pay 90k with TD I believe at 105k) alongside bonuses that are typically higher than competitors. Higher pay tradeoff is longer hours, teams there really grind compared to the big 5
Not National, don’t want to dox myself as i don’t know how big the incoming class is. Have been told the hours are regularly 9-6, with the occasional 9-7.
Sounds like National my friend got that exact package. If you want PE then there are obviously better places to start your career but compared to the rest of the white collar world in Toronto this is a pretty good gig.
is Private Credit or PE an option down the road? Wouldn’t oppose to being a career banker if my TC starts at ~150k for virtually a 9-5. However, I’d like to keep my options open of course
You prob need to lateral to IB if you want buyside
I’m curious about this too if anyone has any answers

So you just proved you were trying to lower the competition.
It was obvious the way you were shitting on every Canadian thread telling grads to quit trying that you weren’t a professional, to then call CB the best high finance gig. 😂
Brother what are you on about? I haven’t been in any threads. A guy can’t be excited about his new grad offer?
Corporate banking is a great gig, especially if you want to do it long term.
Pay is generally great and WLB is fantastic. There really isn't any fire drills like the ones you experience in IB or PE, and clients usually suck up to you versus the other way around.
Only downside is you learn less than you would in IB and it is very difficult to break into PE or a good corp. dev. role if you want to exit. Basically less optionality. Trade off is pretty clear IMO.
