Why don't you just set some boundaries for yourself? Is it really worth it to trade every last ounce of your dignity so that you can be there for an internal call that's been pushed back umpteen times? You'll probably be more respected in the long term if you stood up for yourself. In response to the fourth push back which is going to make you miss dinner: “I can’t do 8pm - I have an appointment. I can be free from 9pm onwards”. Note two things: you’re not saying ‘sorry’ (because you shouldn’t be apologising for this) and you’re providing an alternative solution.

That's definitely something, I've thought about. But unfortunately, he's the kind of guy who doesn't like being stood up against. I did try once: "I am free tomorrow morning if that works for the team?", his response "you ED now?", and hearing him talk about others behind their back, he probably has done it to me too. In his mind we are very much just people with dog collars, with his name in the 'lost and found' side.

Idk why you’re breaking your back for someone like that.

If it becomes financially preferable to fire you at any point in your tenure with him, he’ll do it in a second and not lose a moment’s sleep at night.

Why do you care if he’s talking shit behind your back? If you’re looking to be a career banker, that’s clearly not the place to do it (lateral asap) so his thoughts on you don’t matter. If you’re looking to switch to PE/consulting/tech etc, his thoughts on you don’t matter either.

I promise you there are companies and bosses out there that actually appreciate their employees and respect them as people. The grass is greener.
