Do I need a sophomore IB internship

Go to a target and have a top PWM and another strong non finance internship with some impressive finance projects.

  1. However, for IB and MBB, do I need an sophomore internship? Is it much of a boost? I’ve heard conflicting answers as by the time sophomore IB internships applications open, I wouldn’t have been able to do a sophomore internship (but for MBB it may be more true).

  2. Is having a sophomore internship in IB good for MBB purposes too?

  3. Are lesser known MMs worth it for a sophomore internship or do they not add much?

Having "incoming 2025 summer intern at xyz capital" never hurts. For someone of your profile, not necessary by any means, but anything helps.

For you personally, assuming you have a good GPA, it probably won't be the difference between offer and no offer, but I still think there could be value in doing it. Say you decided to re-recruit FT after junior year because you want a better/different bank, you'd have two full time IB internships under your belt, and it'd be a difference-maker in that situation.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that it can never be a bad thing to get additional highly relevant experience (and yes this stands even for small MMs)

Yes tbh. The internship recruiting process, what these firms see as valuable experience, and even your actual experience as an intern at MBB vs. IB is pretty similar.
