Do non-wall street IB's such as Suntrust Robison Humphrey (Atlanta) recruit large, non target, state schools?
Rising senior in high school and will be unable to attend target schools due to the insane amounts that tuition costs. I am wondering if I would be able to get into IB still through large State schools.
Can't speak for other banks but uga places well for strh
A large state school with get you a shot at BB and MM with the right internships and "enough" networking. "Enough" defined as a fuck ton.
University of Georgia should place well regionally and may even place well in sub cities. I am primarily thinking Charlotte or Houston. But I would make a linkedin and search to see where alumni placed from your local schools. Then I would make my decision based on that.
Feel free to PM me if you want a little more indepth dive.
As said above, state schools can recruit well into the regional city they're close to. UT-Austin to Houston. Michigan to Chicago. UNC/UGA to Charlotte or Atlanta. Those are just examples off the top of my head. Keep in mind though that those schools also recruit heavily to the top private schools in that area. So Houston would be SMU/RICE/maybe TCU, Chicago would be like UChicago, Northwestern, Notre Dame. Atlanta would be like Emory, Washington & Lee, Vandy. Again just examples off the top of my head. In my experience the state school guys I've come across were all very sharp (3.8+ GPA graduated with honors, involved with finance clubs, good internships, etc.). The tough thing is your competing against a larger pool and a 3.5 GPA among like a thousand finance majors won't stand out. Definitely network a ton. Yes UGA actively recruits at STRH but again also competing against Vandy, UNC, W&L, Clemson, Emory, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, etc. so better network and do well in school
At UNC, can confirm. A fuckton go to STRH.
Yes, have a high GPA, establish a plan from the start, network & join clubs.
Set yourself up for success and you will find it. Be relentless.
I am a rising senior at a super non-target southern state school and I just accepted a FT IB position after my summer internship with a top BB in NYC. Speaking from experience it’s definitely hard but not impossible to end up wherever you want to be as long as you are persistent and network a ton.
BAML isn’t a top BB but ok.
Many of these state schools have IB programs/investment funds and workshops that place well into regional banks, with occasional EB/BB placement. It is absolutely critical that you are active in all of these programs if you want a fighting chance.
