Does salary varies by location?

Hi eveyone. I wonder whether the salary of the same job title within the same company will be different among different regions? e.g. Whether ER 1st year analyst at GS NYC will have a higher salary than ER 1st year analyst at GS Maryland? Since the CoL varies greatly among different regions. Any insight?

Depends on the role, the level, and the location. This is for what I know about IB, not sure about ER. NYC is proably going to be greater than Maryland for the same role but the pay is probably the same for NYC to CHI/HOU even though those are lower cost cities.

Usually the pay for analyst roles will be similar across all cities but as you move up the chain the "Tier 1" cities NYC/SF/LA/CHI/HOU will have higher pay. An average VP in Minneapolis/Dallas/Charlotte probably isn't making 500k like those other cities.
