Double Major vs Sophomore Internship
Hello, I'm a rising sophomore at a target, majoring in computer science with a minor in econ. Despite my major, I'm considering pursuing a career on the non-quant side of finance. And to help me in this, I'm considering upgrading my econ minor and doing a double major; econ and computer science.
According to previous posters, this is a pretty powerful combination.
However my dilemma is that in order to graduate on time with this double major, I'll have to take 5 classes next summer and give up an opportunity for a summer internship. I do not have any internship experience so far, so this will result in my future junior summer internship being my only internship experience when I graduate.
I'd like some advice on if the long-term benefits of a double major in computer science and econ will outweigh having only one internship when I graduate. Or perhaps the double major is overkill and that internship would prove to be much more valuable?
I'm hesitant to switch majors(majoring in Econ with a minor in computer science) because I'm still not 100% on if investment banking is a good fit for me. I'm a very casual guy, very start-up/entrepreneurial focused(started a used textbook business this summer, building a iphone app at the moment). However I don't want an occupation where I'm hitting a salary wall just 10 years after graduation, and I do want a career that's constantly challenging me and forcing me to grow. Venture capital has caught my eye but from reading WSO, it looks like it could take some years to get there.
So in the interests of keeping my options open, what would be more valuable: a double major or a sophomore internship?

Sophomore internship will give you more edge than double major. CS is much harder than Econ so I would no worry about your major.
