just curious, has anyone heard of anyone getting busted on the drug test for marijuana use for SA jobs in the US? i don't smoke often so i'm not super worried but want to know just in case. also, do they use the hair test (can test back 90 days) or is it just urine? i imagine that many people would get tested positive if they use the hair test...
basically, just wondering what's the deal? should i take it very seriously and completely abstain from smoking? my school's recruiting period is from late jan to march.

If you really can't stop smoking pot for a month to pass a drug test, then you will face much bigger hurdles when you get to the real world.

Spliffs are life.
The problem with weed is how long it stays in your system relative to other drugs, and how little time some firms give you to take the test after notifying you of it. Some might let you know that you'll be tested just prior to your start date, others might give you two weeks, others might give you two days. There's just too many factors involved to come up with a foolproof plan to beat the test.
Like other posters have said, it's just not worth the risk.

If it's a hair test (You won't know until you get there) be sure to bring a razor with you in your pocket. Ask to go to the restroom and quickly shave your entire body, everything. Flush down all the hair and walk out casually. At this point you have to hope that the nurse doesn't realize you now have no hair. If she inquires, plead ignorant.
Unless you're getting high with them... you will pass just fine. My friend just passed his drug test for a biomedical company he smoked everyday all the time... for 3 years stopped 2 months before he applied for jobs and was in the sauna everyday the week he was interviewing he was fine.
It will be a urine test. If you haven't done any drugs, then you don't need to worry about it. I doubt that the concentration of THC in second hand smoke could make someone fail.
Seriously, those tests are so dumb I think you'd literally have to smoke right before to actually fail.

So I just received an offer from a firm in NYC. I have been doing the on boarding for the firm and they informed me I have to take a drug test in the near future. I smoke occasionally maybe one a month. Its actually legal where I live so I have not broken any laws per se though I doubt that will matter. I bought a few tests which I passed but I understand there is a type of hair related testing that's nearly impossible to beat. My question is what type of test do BB firms typically conduct? Perhaps a stupid question but does failing one automatically rescind any offer? I read through the print of my offer but wasn't able to locate anything that dealt with that. Good news I decided to quit altogether after this though doesn't matter for my current predicament. Any advice appreciated.
Hair testing is rare because it's more expensive. Most firms just require you to go to a local nurse's office (Quest Diagnostics for metro NY), piss test, and they send on the transcript to HR. I've seen offers rescinded immediately for drug test failure, mainly because it's a legal liability and it shows that you don't have enough common sense to pass an employment drug test, which you knew you were going to take upon offer.
I would just purge the few days beforehand (drink lots of water, etc.) and you should be fine.
They are not going to pay for a hair testing. Especially since all their people are probably addicts on something. Just detox until your test. You will be fine
