Ensuring Success

So I am sitting here waiting for my business law class to start and I am relaxing listening to some classical piano music on my laptop. I start thinking about life and where I have come from and where I am going. Then it him me, why not ask you monkey's what I need to do to ensure success in the real world, or at least get damn close.

Currently I am a Sophomore in college at Texas State University. As a freshmen I was vice president of SIFE, I was a part of many organizations some business related some not so much. Some of the groups were Student Government, FMA, Accounting Society etc... I had an accounting internship also as a freshmen. Over the summer I read 8 books all about business. I do not read during the school year because I have so much other stuff to focus on so all my reading is done over the summers.

I am in my sophomore year now and I feel like I am not really advancing like I need to be. I made it into the honors program this year but thats about all I can say that is "WOW" about this year. Granted it just started 3 weeks ago, I feel like I am in a slump, like other people in the same boat as me are doing something I am not. I plan on keeping my GPA as high as possible (Currently 4.0)and transferring into University of Texas at Austin McCombs school of business. If that goes south then I will try Mays school of business at A&M. What can I do starting from now that will help me. Some steps or key check points I need to reach. I really want to make it in the investment banking world and be a real player.

Any serious advice and guidance will really be appreciated!!

Thanks

Sounds like you're doing the right things. Getting into McCombs should be your priority, which means keep that GPA as high as you can. Are you limited to just schools in Texas, or could you transfer elsewhere out of state? Whenever I felt I was not "progressing" I would make sure to just work hard every day, not sleep in, not be lazy, etc. and good things will happen.

There's no way to ensure success.

That said, droking hit the nail on the head. Stay active and productive, but remember working hard isn't going to get you anywhere, you need to work smart.

If working hard was all it took be successful then the US would be run by Mexicans.
