Evercore vs. Centerview

Hi everyone, I am an incoming sophomore who is getting ready to recruit this spring and the title pretty much says it all. I am gunning for an EB (looking for compensation, leaner deal teams, exits, etc.) and I have heard that Centerview and Evercore are widely regarded as the top two. I go to a lower semi-target, and am planning on networking a ton for the banks I apply to. I obviously want to go to the best of the best, and I am wondering which of these is better & I should spend more time networking with? Any experience or advice would be greatly appreciated

CVP is better for what you’re optimizing for, but you’ll end up networking more for Evr by virtue of how large they have become.

I’ll also add that on an absolute basis, Evr will have more/better buyside placements than CVP, but on a per capita basis, the delta in quality of exit placement is negligible. Hence why I say CVP is better, because comp, culture, and experience will be top of street. And you won’t necessarily have to put up with the bureaucratic environment at a larger establishment (Evr / other big boutiques).

you're not required to do anything. if you leave before 3 years you just pay back some of your signing bonus.

CVP is known to be a little hard to network with unless you have an organic connection through a program/club. Cold emailing alums rarely works and they even discourage it. Regardless, you shouldn’t be networking with just 1-2 firms. Make a list of at least 15 banks that you’re interested in and network as much as you can with each one. Don’t target just one or two banks cause they’re the “best” ones.
