Exactly how do you go about the initial application processes for SA positions?
Hi, I'm new to the community, so please excuse me for my general ignorance- I decided a bit late that I'd like to go into finance, hopefully work at a BB/EB for a couple of years and move onto PE or VC. I just finished sophomore year at Harvard with a 3.5 GPA and will be working at a small bank in the IB division this summer (this was done informally via connection), and I'm just a bit confused on how the initial process works up until the first phone interview.
I understand that different types of banks have different timelines, with boutiques already handing out offers. I know that applications opened up in May/early June, but exactly when am I supposed to apply to those positions (for 2020 SA positions)? Am I supposed to apply as soon as these positions open up?
How can I increase my chances of getting my resume recognized in order for me to even get that first round phone/video interview? I've been sending out general cold call LinkedIn connects to alumni at firms, but most of them haven't gotten back to me yet (it's been ~1 week since I've done so).
Thanks so much in advance.
Reach out to Harvard alum at each bank. They are more likely to answer your messages. Also, I would think Harvard has their own recruiting team for each bank so try and find the recruiter/bankers on the team and get in touch with them. If you speak with the whole team then I would say you have a very very good chance of getting a first round and even superday
Hi, thanks for this. Would you say that the fastest way to get contacts from the recruiting team is via the university career service advisors?
Linkedin is always a good bet, you might run into an alum not on the recruiting teams so you'll have a contact that's more likely to pull for you
