NuclearPenguins, got the most important points. Three others things that I would consider would be:

  • If you ever reach for your mouse, immediately do a Google search for how you could have accomplished this task with just the keyboard.

  • Ask your fellow analysts. At my MM, an analyst and I started compiling an Excel file with tips and tricks and before we knew it, every analyst was in on it. I probably learned more from that than I did from any class.

  • Use macros for any repetitive tasks that you have to regularly complete. Examples would be shading every other row (that mod row formula) or setting up the column headings for a DCF.

Good points by Sil here. To those of you who might be thinking "Googling shortcuts / using the Alt tab is going to be so much slower what a waste of time" - the point is that a little bit of pain up front will pay off immensely in the future. Sure, each shortcut will save you maybe 2 or 3 seconds only, but think about how many shortcuts you use in a full workday. That adds up and can mean you get to go home 30 minutes earlier (or more), which is huge.

GameTheoryHow do you maximize an explorer window using the keyboard? And not F11.

If you've minimized a window, then hit: windows key + shift + M

Is that what you need?
