Exit opportunities after CB from a BB

Hi guys,

I just received an offer from a top BB in Europe for an A1 corporate banking position.

I was wondering about potential exits and If it was a good choice from a mid/long term perspective.

Some LevFin seem pretty natural and doable but how about PE/Private Credit roles ?

In the meantime I received a fixed-term offer (6 months) in a small PE/family office firm with a niche market focus and potential full-time offer thereafter, as the team is rapidly growing.

What are your thoughts on that?

Thank's a lot!

I am in North America so maybe my answer is not as valuable; however, my corporate banking class had a wide array of exits. Private Credit/Direct Lending, LevFin/Financial Sponsors, DCM/IB, Fixed Income roles in AM/HFs, Venture Debt, Rx Banking, Restructuring/Turnaround Consulting, Distressed PE, and then of course roles in industry (startups, corporate finance, strategy, etc).

I think, to summarize, when looking to exit into finance specific roles it is much easier to move into something debt/credit specific (DCM, LevFin/Financial Sponsors, FI roles, etc); however, when looking into equity type roles (equity investment analyst at AM/HFs or a traditional PE seat for example) that's where it becomes tremendously harder and someone with an M&A background in IB will likely beat you for that spot. When looking to exit into industry, most people can't even tell you the difference between corporate banking and investment banking so the limitations aren't as strong.

Best of luck!

There is more than one way to get there. I'd rather have 30 chapters than 3000 pages.
