Extra Money

I know there are some back/middle office rats like myself that are aspiring monkeys that arn't quite pulling 6 figures... what do some of you do for some extra money? Or what have some of you done for extra money? I have a biatch of a commute and am in the process of finding a new place closer to work, but Im in serious need of some additional moola.

I would like to do something related to finance that I could spin as a valuable experience in an interview.... maybe some sort of freelance financial modeling or something of that sort.

eBay items around the office.

Used Swingline staplers can fetch you a solid $5. (Add in $5 shipping and add MANDATORY insurance, subtract PayPal fees, and you got yourself $10)

No, I've never done this.

on a serious note, ebay is a sick moneymaker. if you do your research you can buy things and consistently flip for profits, did this all throughout college.

buy things off websites like slickdeals.net, fatwallet.com and also if you do research and are smart you can make money selling tickets to concerts, sporting events etc.

all about making the most amount of $ with the least amount of effort IMO and cant beat ebay if you do it right and learn quickly.

interesting. Question... did you find a good buy, buy it, and then sell on ebay? or did you list something you didnt even own, sell it on ebay, and then buy it and have it shipped directly to the winning bidder?

I live in China and would love to find things I can source locally and sell overseas for some extra cash. Early on SD cards were expensive in US and cheap in Asia and one of my friends made extra money buying those in bulk and selling them to USA by mail. It was the perfect item because they are postage-stamp sized and shipping is done in a tracked envelope. Sadly the arbitrage on that went away. What else can I sell in USA that is cheap in China? And please don't say meth.

That sort of arbitrage would be difficult as the only way you can add value to the product is by increasing accessibility, and there's only so much you can accomplish through fancy headlines and extravagant descriptions. Plus you will have to reuse the original seller's pictures. Everyone sees the same listings, there's almost no room to sneak in any profit.

I think what Bateman is referring to is just buying things at a discount through other retailers, then flipping them for a quick margin. Slickdeals does have some pretty slick deals from time to time, though the listings have been getting dry lately. Just think about different items, look up their general values on eBay, and figure out if you can buy them for any cheaper. Think about advantages that your geographical location can give you, or any discounts that you could receive that others would not.

oasis has it. i agree slickdeals used to have wild deals and money was there to be made but it has gotten worse recently although i clearly dont have the time to be selling on ebay any longer but still browse slickdeals for personal stuff. another problem i found when i used to sell was sometimes things appear attractive and then the market gets flooded and you turn small profits/lose money.

tickets is the way to go but be warned it is risky and you can get burned.

i wouldnt mess around with selling stuff you dont own as these type of deals generally come and go very quickly.

or you can trade in your PA if you have skills.
