Failed the 79

Hi all - I failed the 79 about 2 days ago. It was my fault, I definitely underprepared and was way too overconfident going into it. There were a ton of regulations that I just hadn't memorized. Is my reputation in my group already done before I hit the desk? I feel like my whole group will think I'm an idiot. I can retake it in a month but it's just an awful feeling knowing I did this to myself. If anyone has any experience with this, pls lmk

EDIT: Thanks for the reassurance guys. It seems like I'll be fine - I'll just actually study a lot harder in a month lol

I failed my first attempt and did not want to go back to work, but had to. Just hold your head high, one of the best bankers in my group failed his first time as well. Make sure to learn the concepts instead of taking so many practice tests. I also had a tutoring session- I didn't really get that much out of it concept wise, but I felt like it made my self-confidence increase. Definitely worth it to me. Just keep grinding away and learn the concepts

Take this as a lesson that this isn't school anymore and you need to treat things more seriously or you won't last long. I would tell as few people as possible and re-take it as soon as you are allowed. The Series exams are tough in that nobody cares or thinks better of you if you pass - it's expected, but if you fail, it's not a great start. your first 6 months on the desk are your reputation for the rest of your analyst stint. Put your head down and grind extra hard if you want to make it right.

I wouldn't tell anyone in the group except your boss and compliance/HR. Nobody is going to think better of you for failing. They will either not care, or think you're dumb/underprepared. One chick failed the 63 in our group and told everyone. Now lots of people think she's not solid enough.

You’ll be fine. I wouldn’t broadcast the fact that you failed. However, I do know that Knopman was sending the diagnostic and benchmark scores to my bank. Hopefully you did those and did the 500-800 recommended questions because otherwise you’ll have a reputation of not listening, not being able to follow directions, and being overconfident.
