Favorite Newsletters to Impress During Interviews
What are your favorite newsletters to stay up to date on market news/gather unique insights to impress during interviews?
If you're starting to recruit for banking or consulting roles here are some of my favorites:
- Daily Peel (https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/media/newsletters/the-daily-peel): Shoutout WSO because the daily peel does a solid job at synthesizing market news. It is usually a quick 5-10 minute read
- Exec Sum (https://www.execsum.co): Lit's newsletter also breaks down some market concepts, but the real value here lies within the transaction updates. Great way to learn about recent deals/speak about them during interviews
- Strictly VC (https://www.strictlyvc.com): Definitely not necessary for banking interview prep, but this newsletter sheds solid insight into recent deals happening in the VC/startup space
- Petition (https://petition.substack.com): Covers bankruptcies and events in the distressed world (also not necessary for banking interview prep). This is lowkey my favorite newsletter just because I find the distressed world very interesting
Comment your favorites, I want to see if I'm missing out on any gems.
If you're recruiting for banking or consulting, drop a comment and feel free to PM me. I can shoot over some other helpful resources your way.
This is super helpful!
Resisting the urge to gate keep here, but my personal favorite is Money Stuff by Matt Levine. Not necessarily a daily recap or keep up to date on the news type content Ala the names you listed, but a very interesting (funny + easy to understand) smattering of unique or notable happenings in the business / law / markets worlds.
Axios Pro Rata, 5 Things (Bloomberg)
Read it if you want but The Daily Peel as a name sounds a bit too cringe to namedrop in an interview
Yeah I wouldn't name drop lmao
MindGeek Weekly Roundup. Extremely useful to understand the digital content space if going for TMT.
Personal favorites:
- Axios Pro Rata
- Term Sheet
- The Diff by Byrne Hobart
- Tomasz Tunguz
- Pari Passu
I also skim the Secondaries Investor newsletter from PEI and the Pitchbook Daily Pitch.
following
Money Stuff
FT Due Diligence
WSJ Pro Private Equity Daily
I like Axios Pro Rata, Term Sheet, and Exec Sum
Axios Pro Rata (Markets is helpful too) and Term Sheet (and none have the drawback of being potential dings if somebody asks you to name them).
